So today we are gonna do something I think is a little out of the box for tombow markers…..feel free to correct me if you don’t think its out of the box!!
We are gonna make a stained glass picture.
So to start you need your favorite tombow markers(I used the galaxy set and a yellow n55)
a black sharpie
a floating frame (I’m using a 3.5×5 in frame)
a piece of paper
a ruler
and a pencil
but the last three you wont need if you use the template I made and will share at the end of the post

Okay so I started off this project by tracing the inside of the frame, and sketching(with my ruler) out my stained glass(like I said you can skip this step if you plan use my template)

I than traced it just to make sure its dark…you can use whatever black marker you want but I think I’m gonna use the thin end of my black tombow and keep using your ruler to keep your lines straight.

Than I laid the glass on the template….now I don’t think it matters cause both sides should be the same but put the outside side down and draw on the inside side…

Using your sharpie trace your lines. I was originally going to use my ruler but after doing the outside edges I said forget it, after each line I had to wipe the ruler or leave marks when I put it down in the next spot. So I free handed it, tracing as best as I could, you do it how you feel is best but if its not perfect don’t worry the end result will look really good in the sun and you’ll be the only one who really spots the flaws

When you’re done tracing let it dry….I didn’t want to but I traced mine at night so I let it dry over night.
Next I touched up any spots that looked like they really needed it…be careful though if you’re too rough with the sharpie you’ll scratch off what you already did and you don’t have to let it dry for long like I did yesterday lol a few minutes is enough
Now comes the moment of truth lol!!! I’m writing up this tutorial while I try out my idea so win or fail I’m gonna share this with you all!!

I picked a color and started filling in the shapes!!!

I was slightly afraid it was gonna work quite right but it seems to be. Fill in all the spaces. I’m doing a few in each color to start with. i’m noticing some spots that are showing up as it dries but thats ok when this is dry i think a second coat will be a good idea.

So I’ve gone over each one a few times and I noticed a bunch of them acting weird like the color was bunching up
Part of me wanted to leave it but another part had to figure out a way to fix it
I was at a loss till I looked through my markers and found my blender….perfect!!

It’s fixing them enough to make me happy.

I am cleaning(drawing on a piece of paper) between colors just to not mix them.

Letting this one dry more than the sharpie, so over night wouldn’t be a bad idea.
I can’t wait to see this finished…using that blender pen seems to have really helped!!!
Alright guys I peeked at it this morning before work but didn’t touch it till after.

It seemed a touch damp when I did(left it for roughly 12 hours I think) it wasn’t enough to stop me though and I gently put the other glass over it and slipped it into the frame….I’m sooo happy with the way it turned out. It’s actually very pretty!!! I’ve moved it around a few times and haven’t seen any smudging or anything so yay!!!
I’d love to hear your thoughts!! Is this something you’d make?? Do you have any tips or tricks to make things go smoother or dry faster?? I plan to do this again and when I do I’ll play with some ideas to see if I perfect anything than add notes to this post!!!
Template Outline (print this out to fit your frame!!)
Edit…..my kiddos played with it….I should have hit it with either a blow dryer or been more patient…I still think it looks cool though!

Will you try this project??
