In early 1800s England, Jess Beauchene has spent most of her life in hiding and always on the move in an effort to leave her past far behind her. But when she learns the family she thought had died just might be alive and in danger, she knows her secrets can only stay buried for so long.
Derek Thornbury loves the past, which has led him to become an expert in history and artifacts. He knows Jess has never liked him, but when she requests his help deciphering the clues laid out in an old family diary, he can't resist the urge to solve the puzzle.
As Jess and Derek race to find the hidden artifact before her family's enemies, they learn as much about each other as they do about the past. But can their search to uncover the truth and set history right lead to a future together?
You guys know that so far I’ve very much enjoyed the Haven Manor series and at first it took me a little bit to realize who Jess was!
You guys might also remember how much I LOVED Jess in a noble masquerade!
Now we just need to take a minute….Jess finally has her own story! I knew it was coming but eeek!!! And ahhhh the past characters that show up!!! I might be freaking out a little even if I hoped against hope we’d see them again!!! I almost had a hard time starting this book cause I didn’t want to see Jess go…last book in The series means I’ll be sad when it’s over…but oh my word this book drew me in from the very beginning and I won’t lie I was almost a little lost at first but not a lot and it all was quickly set to rights in my head!
Questions I NEEDED answered were! Why did Jess leave Ryland and Miranda, how exactly did she end up with Krfit, and who did she think she recognized at daphnes wedding! We find out all this and more….
Now I’m honestly trying not to give out any spoilers! Really I’m not! If you’ve read this book, this series and maybe even the Hawthorne series write me we can totally chat about things that happened!
But oh my word I loved this story sooo much!!
“I laughed, I cried, it moved me Bob”- Larry the cucumber
Sorry but I couldn’t have said it better myself 🙂
But seriously things twisted and turned and I wasn’t sure what end was up at one point!! My only issue was it had a, what I call a Star Trek ending…were everything builds up and your sure there won’t be enough time to resolve it all but than during the last 5 minutes everything gets fixed. Now don’t get me wrong I’m pretty happy with the outcome of the ending I just wish I could have had more detail and involvement….I’d have liked to now more about what happened in those last couple chapters.
Overall though I highly recommend this book and think will end up reding it again very soon!
